Our House is Progressing

Howdy Everybody!

So work is progressing on our house despite the fact that a spike in COVID-19 cases here in Texas is causing a “pause” in this phase of re-opening. As I mentioned earlier, construction is considered an “essential business” so work on our house progresses.

But first, an update on what we are doing. Trace continues to work from home and I have returned to work at the Magnolia Market. Believe it or not, this place is still hosting pretty good sized crowds. And folks have travelled from all over the US! Most don’t seem to mind that they have to wear a face mask, or that they may have to wait to get in as we have to limit the capacity inside the Market. But there are always a few who have to “voice their displeasure”. Do they not understand that there is a pandemic going on?

Well enough on that. Let’s get back to our house and the progress that is being made. Framing will be complete by the Fourth of July. The week after, we will have our walk-thru with the electricians to determine where all of the electrical outlets and such will be room by room. We will also be meeting with the Custom Integrators at the walk-thru to get all of the network and smart home connections nailed down. Then shortly after that we will be walking through with the cabinet makers to get the kitchen, bathroom, etc. cabinets designed and spec’d out.

Trace and I have been super busy lately as we have already selected all the plumbing fixtures, electrical fixtures, appliances, roofing material and color, windows, doors, floor and wall tile, countertops, along with interior and exterior paint colors. This is our first 100% custom home and it can be a bit daunting (but exciting too) when you have to pick out every little thing. We have really done our homework and have researched everything quite thoroughly to ensure we get the best bang for our buck. We are a bit ahead of the curve with our selections, but that is where I want to be. I do not want us to be the “long pole in the tent” and hold up the construction. They are still trying to hold to a 01 Dec 2020 closing date. So fingers crossed, the weather will also cooperate!

So here are the latest and greatest pictures I have taken of the house. I walked all around the outside of the house and took pictures from all the different angles. But I do think they need to chop down the weeds around the perimeter of the lot or we may not be able to see the house pretty soon!!

This is the front view of our house. The vapor barrier that covers the sheathing has not been completely cut out yet for the windows. Also, the shingles have not yet been installed on the roof. But hey, it’s a work in progress!

This is the view looking into our garage (right front corner of the house). The entry for the garage is on the right side of the house. If you look closely, you can see our windows sitting in the garage.
This is the left rear corner view of the house. That big open area to the left is where the screened in porch will be.
