After 34 years in Colorado, I had almost forgotten how annoying these pesky little varmints could be. I honestly don’t think I had one mosquito bite the whole time I was in Colorado. Maybe the Colorado mosquitoes (what few there are) didn’t like me all that much. Not so in Texas where I have had three mosquito bites in the last two weeks, all which I got while working at the Magnolia Market. Hmmmm…..
And did I mention that there seems to be a family of lizards residing in our garage at our apartment? They look like little gecko lizards. I have been told that they are harmless, but I put them in the same category that I put snakes. So if I ever manage to catch those fast little critters, they are dead!!
Well, for all of you keeping tabs on our house progress, it is coming along, albeit rather slowly. Framing is pretty much done. Windows have all been installed, with the exception of my study window which is on back order. The house has been wrapped with the water barrier material. Trace and I had our electrical walk-thru, preliminary cabinet walk-thru, and preliminary communications/smart home walk-thru. That was quite an interesting day as all of them were scheduled one after the other. And since our house still doesn’t have an HVAC system, it was quite warm. No, it was actually HOT!!! But we tediously went through each walk-thru, room by room, to determine where electrical outlets, light fixtures, ceiling fans, network/smart home connections, and TV connections should be located. We also went through preliminary cabinet design for each of the rooms that will have cabinets and/or bookshelves in them. We have our next cabinet meeting at the cabinet showroom here in Waco on 29 July 2020. At this next meeting we will nail down the final design features like color, style of cabinet, wood selection, and special cabinet add-ons. Cha-ching, cha-ching!!
Trace and I are trying to keep safe amid the new spikes in the COVID-19 cases here in Texas and even in our own county. Businesses (except for bars) have been opened since just before Memorial Day and I went back to work at the Magnolia Market (at the Silos) the second week in June. And despite the executive order that was put in place requiring face masks in all public places, it is extremely difficult to get folks to adhere to that order. And believe it or not, folks are flocking to the Silos from all over the country, as if nothing is going on. Since Trace is “high risk” due to his asthma, I decided to quit working at Magnolia for the time being. I really don’t want to bring this virus home, and I think that despite their efforts to keep us safe, the risk is higher there due to the volume of people from all over that come in. They were very understanding, and even left the door open for me to come back to work after all this COVID stuff is more under control. I really appreciated that and may just take them up on that once a vaccine is available. So, after next Saturday I will again be an “unemployed bum”! But I think with everything ramping up with the house, this will also allow me more time to keep an eye on stuff going on over there.
At this point you all are probably wishing that I would just quit my talking (or writing) and just show you the pictures. I know Trace has been posting to his Facebook page, but in case you haven’t seen the latest and greatest pics, here are a few that I have taken.
