Coming on Christmas 2020

Well, less than two weeks until Christmas! This Christmas will be way different than Christmases past for obvious reasons. For us, it will be the first Christmas that we don’t spend together with our son. That’s a tough pill to swallow, but we do plan on opening presents together a la FaceTime. My guess is that a lot of people will be doing the same type of thing to connect with their loved ones this Christmas. What a crazy year 2020 has been!!!

With regards to the house, as my last post told you, we will not be in the house by Christmas. COVID has finally hit the construction business here in Waco. Up until now, it really hasn’t affected it much. But within the past month, the tradespeople (i.e. the painters, tilers, plumbers, electricians, etc.) have been hit hard. And since our house is now in the building stage where we need all of these folks, we have been delayed. Our new closing date is tentatively scheduled for 20 Jan 2021. We’re hoping that they can stick to that date as we have furniture, area rugs, and window coverings ordered that all should be here by the first part of January, at the latest. Thankfully, the furniture folks have agreed to hold onto our stuff, free of charge, until we close.

As for the house progress, we now have grass, landscaping, a driveway and front walkway, and a fence. The painters are currently doing their thing, inside and out. They have completed painting the doors, the ceilings, and all the woodwork (i.e. crown moldings, baseboards, closet shelves, etc.). On Monday they start the walls. Then they have to complete the outside painting. Once they are done, the tilers can come in and complete the bathroom tiling and all the floor tile. That by itself will take 2-3 weeks. Then electricians can put in outlets, light fixtures, ceiling fans, etc. At the same time plumbers can put in toilets, master bath tub, and the rest of the faucets and of course, my pot-filler in the kitchen. Then appliances come in. Then touch-up work, cleaning and sanitizing, and finally ready for closing. I may have missed a couple of small items here and there, but you get the gist…we’re getting into the home stretch FINALLY!!!

Trace and I don’t anticipate much of a punch list as we have been making daily walk-arounds and are pretty much catching everything right away. So here are a couple of recent photos. Once we close, and get settled in, I will send out our new address to everyone.

Trace and I wish everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY and HEALTHY NEW YEAR!!!

This is a close-up of my kitchen backsplash. It’s not completed yet, as it will go all the way up the wall behind the hood vent. It really pops with the white upper cabinets and the white and gray marbled quartz countertops. Plus, the browns in it are almost a perfect match for the wood-grained porcelain floor tile. This truly will be the kitchen of my dreams!
Ok, the “kitchen of my dreams” is a work in progress right now! The painters are really doing a fabulous job, but what a mess they make in the process!! At least they covered everything up. Now you can understand why the whole house will need a good cleaning and sanitizing before we accept it.
Another inside shot to show the eyebrow archways. Trace and I really love the eyebrow archways and windows. The big archway from the family room to the kitchen, shown on the left of this photo, will be covered with a porcelain ledge rock tile on both sides.
This picture was taken in the master bedroom looking into the master bath. The inside squares of the coffered ceiling will be painted gray to match the wall paint. We really think that will make the white woodwork of the ceiling pop out instead of just doing white on white.
Ok, now for some outside pics. This is part of our fence off of the driveway. We had them stain the fence so it would blend in better with the coloring of the house. Since we are on a corner, the fence is a bigger deal.
A view of the front of the house with our grass and landscaping in. Our mailbox post at the front of the walkway, will have a light mounted on the top when the electricians get around to installing it.
Another view of the front of the house. Doesn’t our lawn look pathetic? They just threw it down and didn’t even roll it. Our house Project Manager claims that they have to wait to roll it out. Yeah, right!!! I’m thinking that we may need to get a whole new lawn as this one looks pretty dead! What do you think??
Just another view of some of our landscaping. We picked plants that will be colorful in the Spring and Summer.
So Trace and I broke down and got a tree for the apartment. We figured in the future we could always have a second tree in the house. But as you can see, it’s a pretty tight fit here in the apartment. The kitties love it though!!
2020 has brought out a lot of this…
