Since we were still “apartment dwellers” in December, we decided to visit our son, Will, in NYC for Christmas. Both Trace and I needed a little vacation away from work. Yes, I know what you are thinking. I am supposed to be enjoying my retirement. Well, as I mentioned in my earlier email blast, I am working for Chip and Jo (of the Fixer Upper fame) at their Silos Market. And it, like any retail establishment, gets mighty busy at Christmastime. (Did I mention before that the Silos have surpassed the Alamo as the #1 tourist destination in the state of Texas?) I was working some crazy hours especially when we had “Christmas at the Silos”. I worked the ice skating rink. Yes you heard me right, the ice skating rink. They actually set up an artificial ice skating rink, as a real one probably never would have survived in our 50+ degree temperatures. I had so much fun watching folks from around here trying to stand up straight on ice skates! It was lots of fun but also lots of work. Anyway, by the time Christmas came rolling around, I was ready for a little vacation.
There’s something about Christmas in NYC with all of the lights and festivities, even if the temperatures were rather balmy for that time of the year. Trace and I had a blast visiting with Will and taking in all of the sights and sounds. We went to midnight mass at this tiny little church in Brooklyn and then I cooked Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings at Will’s apartment. Man, he has some really nice appliances in his apartment compared to the pieces of shit that we have for appliances at our apartment in Waco. I actually enjoyed getting in there and cooking up the meal. Even got Will to help me out so it was fun.
Anyway, the whole trip was great as we got to spend some quality time with Will, and forget about our house (or the lack of it) in Texas for awhile. I’ve posted a couple of pictures that we took in NYC.
